Safari Day 2 Ngorongoro Crater by… Hallie, Julia, Seth, and Rachel

Ngorongoro Crater by… Hallie, Julia, Seth, and Rachel

Today is our second day of safari. We woke up bright and early at our campground around 5:30 am. Breakfast began at 6:00 am. We had crepes, sausage, eggs, and fruit. We also had a very delicious pineapple juice that everyone loved. We then left around 7:00, we loaded up the safari cars to the crater. When we got to the top of the crater, we got to witness one of the most beautiful views we have seen all trip. It was breathtaking. Then we were off to the bottom of the crater on a very bumpy and curvy road. We finally made it to the bottom and saw many animals right away including water buffalo, gazelles, and wildebeest. The crater was so much more open and the animals roamed everywhere. Today we were able to see many more different types of animals at one time sitting in the safari car. The most popular animals that everyone enjoyed seeing were the elephants and the lions. We spent the more time looking and admiring them. Our safari was about 4 hours. It went by quickly because there was so many interesting things to see. Towards the end of the safari, we stopped at a picnic ground in the crater where we ate lunch. We got safari pack lunches again and wasn’t the best tasting but we made do. We had to eat in the safari cars because otherwise the birds would attempt to steal and eat our food. But of course the boys wanted to see what would happen. They threw some chicken on the roof and watched birds attack the food. Mcmorrow wasn’t too fond about it, so they decided to take the chicken back. After everyone finished eating, we started heading back to the top of the crater and it was super twisty and bumpy. It was about an hour drive up. Then from there it was about a 4-5 hour drive home. Everyone was exhausted and slept, but then we stopped at a nice gift shop where people roamed and shopped. Lots of people got t-shirts and ice cream. Thankfully the trip is almost done so we can stop spending money(: Then from the gift shop, we had a straight 4 hour drive back to the lodge. We got back to the lodge around 8 pm and we were suppose to get back around 6 pm. But that’s the “Pole Pole” lifestyle here in Africa and most of the time we are all okay with it. Can’t believe tonight is our last night here in Tanzania. All of us students are truly going to miss this life changing and eye opening experience that many people won’t be able to experience.

See you soon parents!! Love you all!

We've Arrived Safely! by Jacob, Maykayla and Hallie!

Well first off we made it safe and sound! We arrived at MSP Airport and wanted to get food right away. Of course we chose the farthest food venue from our gate but we still made it in time:) Our first flight was 8 hours and was very smooth Hallie and I were lucky enough to sit next to each other on both flights. Delta overwhelmed us with food constantly which made it hard for us to sleep. But it was very good food and we were never hungry. Mr. McMorrow said he has never had this open of a flight, this allowed us to sleep on the floor and move around. We landed in Amsterdam around 6 A.M their time and we had a 4 hour layover. We all took our malorone together which was an obstacle for Rachel who brought her own spoons to crush the pills. We have never seen an airport as busy as this one was at 7 A.M in the morning. Our 4 hour layer over consisted of adventuring for food, sleeping on the freezing floor, people watching (Hallie’s favorite), hair braiding and cleaning up

Final Blog by… Devon, Maddie B, Katelyn, Abbey, and Megan

Final Blog by… Devon, Maddie B, Katelyn, Abbey, and Megan Today’s the day we leave the place that has quickly felt like home. The 2018 Tanzania Group is one of a kind and we know that we will never forget the memories that were made. Our theme, “Live Boldly” could not have fit more perfectly, it truly showed throughout every single person. We saw it in the ways that each person wasn’t afraid to try new things and really embrace the atmosphere and culture in Tanzania. There were many highlights of this trip. We started off with an adventure to the Marangu Falls where we were able to share our first laughs watching everyone struggle to get up and down the slippery “stairs”. A day at the falls was a great way to kick off our amazing adventure. We were all in awe of the beauty that God has created here in Africa. Throughout the two weeks we tested our strengths at the fields with the Mamas that we grew very close to. Farming with them helped us fully understand t

Culture Night by Maddie Z, Makayla, Cade, Sara

3/28/18     Maddie Z, Makayla, Cade, Sara Culture night. It is a night where we learn and experience the traditional ways of the Chagga people of Tanzania. This is Baba Dick’s favorite night, because he is an honorary Chagga. The night started out with us welcoming the Uru secondary school students, the Mamas, the Canadians, and the traditional Chagga performers. Many of us had the opportunity to talk with several of the students until dinner. Maddie met two boys who wanted to become cardiologists. One aspired to be President of Tanzania. Our awesome cooks prepared the Chagga meal which was interesting. It consisted of rice, beef, fried bananas that tasted nothing like potatoes, yams, Ugali, and some vegetable stuff. The food was finished off easily, mostly by the native Tanzanians. Following dinner we cleared the center of the lodge to make way for a party of the Tanzanian sort. The performers came in with their drums and the Mamas came in after. They began chan
